Springbuck Mine Protected Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC)

Springbuck APC

Introduction to the Springbuck

Conceived to protect multi-role forces operating in a mine-threatened environment, the Springbuck mine-protected APC and its variants offer high degrees of ballistic and mine protection, coupled with excellent mobility and manoeuvrability.

During the development phase we wanted to keep the best the Mamba was able to offer and improve on the perceived weaknesses. The new Springbuck is a formidable vehicle able to stand up to the best.

Hull and Chassis of the Springbuck

The Springbuck has and all-welded V-shaped hull of monocoque design with windows for all-round vision and a large rear door for easy mounting and dismounting. Outward-folding roof hatches provide further mounting and dismounting possibilities and for the employment of weapons. (Various options on the roof hatches and gun-ports available)

The design and composition of the hull provides protection to the vehicle’s occupants against the effects of anti-tank mines with charges equivalent to 14kg of TNT detonated under any wheel or 7kg of TNT detonated under the hull.

Externally mounted fuel and drinking water tanks will blast free of the vehicle in the event of explosions to reduce fire hazards and the ample storage bins are also as standard external mounts.

Additional protection against the self-forming fragment mines, such as the TMRP-6, is available as an option.

Heavier axles are used ensuring that the vehicle has a higher payload option and ensuring that the vehicle is not working at maximum capability the whole time. Much more effective braking is also assured.

Engine of the Springbuck

The engine is a powerful Mercedes Benz 4 cylinder turbo diesel with option of a more powerful MWM or International 6 cylinder turbo diesel. The base vehicle has a manual gearbox but optional an automatic gearbox is offered with 6 cylinder engines.

The engine compartment is functionally and spaciously designed, allowing easy access to the engine and its ancillaries and facilitating ease of maintenance, which contributes greatly to the vehicle’s life and reliability.

Ballistic protection of the Springbuck

The hull and glass offer protection against 7.62 x 51mm and 5.56 x 45mm NATO ball ammunition (B6). Optional protection against armour-piercing ammunition is available.

Interior of the Springbuck

The vehicle gives a 360-degree visibility to all occupants and offers first class ride comfort with the driver enjoying all the benefits of a medium commercial truck.

Variants of the Springbuck

a. Standard Springbuck APC carries a driver + 10 people (full infantry section)
b. Ambulance
c. Weapons Platform
d. Armoured Utility Vehicle
